We Turned One! How Another Mother Was Born (and What’s Next)
Twelve months ago, I launched Another Mother with one goal: to help mums feel less alone.
What I didn’t realise then is that this little idea — scribbled on a notepad at a bar, would grow into a business with a waitlist, a team of five local mums, and a mission that’s bigger than cleaning.
So this month, as we blow out our first candle (🎉), I want to share the messy, raw, miraculous story of how Another Mother came to be — and what we’re doing next.
How Another Mother Started: A Very Tired Mum
In 2019, I had my son Gus. He was beautiful, and colicky. Undiagnosed, inconsolable, fussy.
I was also unwell with what I now know was undiagnosed postnatal depression and anxiety.
We were young parents with no support nearby (If only Another Mother had existed)! No knowledge of the services that might’ve helped. No roadmap.
A GP told me, “All babies cry.”
A child health nurse said, “You look like you’re doing fine.”
But I wasn’t. Not even close.
Gus got easier after 18 months, but life didn’t. My partner came out as gay and we separated. In 2023, I hit rock bottom.
I ended up in hospital with treatment-resistant depression and anxiety.
What Heals a Woman
You’d think this is where it ends, but it’s not.
Because even in that lowest place, I had a few golden things:
✨ A great hospital program
✨ A great counsellor
✨ Beautiful beautiful Western Australia
✨ Supportive family (even from afar)
✨ A bright, social, clever boy who brings me joy every day
✨ The right meds (thank you, modern medicine)
✨ And just enough grit to keep going
Eventually, I didn’t just survive, I grew stronger. Happier. More grounded. More vibrant than I’d ever been before.
I started whispering a silly little mantra:
“I am open to receive. Opportunities flow to me with grace and ease. Universe, surprise and delight me.”
And wouldn’t you know it… it worked.
The Idea That Sparked Another Mother
One day, a friend joked: “You should start a cleaning business for tired mums with crappy husbands.”
(That is definitely not how we position ourselves — but let’s be real, the market exists 😅)
That night, I brainstormed at the pub.
By morning, I had a name: Another Mother.
By lunch, I had a logo.
By dinner, I had an Instagram page.
And within a week of launching, I was fully booked.
Because it turns out: mums are tired. Mums are carrying too much. And mums are ready for help that doesn’t come with judgment.
What We Actually Do
Another Mother isn’t just a cleaning service. It’s non-judgemental, whole-home housekeeping.
That means we might do your laundry. Or tackle the dishwasher. Or clean the shower. Or sort through the daycare art pile that’s been haunting you.
We don’t care what state your house is in. We’re here to help you feel less overwhelmed. And we do it with warmth, experience, and zero ego.
Over the last 12 months, the business evolved from “whatever helps” to a refined, reliable, ethical housekeeping service.
We hired an accountant. Subscribed to real software. Onboarded some amazing team members.
Now we’re a team of five lovely, local mums — all working in homes like yours.
What’s Next for Another Mother (and How to Work With Us)

From My Family to Yours
I started this business for myself.
But I keep it going for you.
Because when we support each other — when we mother together — we all do better.
From my home to yours, thank you for an incredible first year.
I’m proud of this little business baby. And I’m doing it for my baby… and for yours too.
Here’s to year two. 💛
By mums, for mums.
